Frequently Asked Questions
I know there's probably a ton of stuff that's not covered here, so if you have a question to which I have not answered, please send it to me via DBS Talk Private Message or AVS Forum Private Message. I'll be sure to add to this page as time goes by. Hopefully it will eventually become more definitive than it is currently.
- Your site is screwed up in [Insert Your Favorite Browser Here].I've tested the site in Internet Explorer v6 and v7, Firefox v2, Safari v2 and v3, and Camino v1.5. Internet Explorer v6 doesn't handle the transparent PNGs well, but other than that it's fine. Those browsers make up almost 100% of my visitors. If you're using one of those browsers with a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher, the site should display just fine. If not, send me a message and I'll see what I can do.
- Should I contact DirecTV if one of the networks stretches and/or zooms and crops upconverted SD programming? No, contact the network directly. There's contact information listed for each network. Click the row to display that additional information
- Should I contact the companies that advertise on the networks that stretch and/or zoom and crop upconverted SD programming? That's completely up to you, but due to the sheer number of advertisers out there, I couldn't possibly keep track of them all. You're on your on there.
- What do all the icons mean? There's an Icon Legend in the upper right corner of the site. Please refer to that.
- What do the column names mean? The four columns that contain the icons are defined in boxes on the right side of your screen. Please refer to those.
- I don't agree with your assesment of one of the networks. How can I get you to fix it.Send me a Private Message at DBS Talk or AVS Forum.
- I thought your site had a lot more information, but I can't find any screenshots, contact information, or transponder information. What gives?Have you tried clicking any of the rows in the table? Give that a shot.
- Why is this site only for channels carried by DirecTV?Because I only have DirecTV. If I had Dish Network, this site would probably be called "Dish Network HD Channels" instead. When I redesigned the site, I intentionally left the database "provider agnostic" so that a Dish Network version could be created if enough interest exists.
- Why aren't Distant Network Services listed? (CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX for New York and Los Angeles)Because this site deals with only national HD channels available to every subscriber (depending upon package or course). The eight Distant Network channels aren't available to every subscriber, therefore they are not listed here.
- Why aren't the HD Pay Per View Channels listed?Because the Pay Per View channels, though national, are not networks that carry regularly scheduled programming. In other words... they're special.
- Why aren't the Sports Subscriptions listed? (NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, NBA League Pass, MLB Extra Innings)For the same reason the Pay Per View channels aren't listed. Though national, the Sports Subscription channels are not networks that carry regularly scheduled programming. They too are considered special.
- Why don't all the channel numbers show up in the list? For example, ESPN is on channel 206, but your site says it's on channel 73.Channel 206 is called a Virtual Channel and is listed in the detailed information when you click on one of the networks. Channel 73 is the Actual Channel that the Virtual Channel maps to.
